Climbing Wall Rules

 

Climbing Rules

 General

1. WSU Cougar Card or Climbing Pass must be shown every time for entry.

2. All users must complete a wall orientation and  register as a member before climbing.

3. Personal items must be stored outside the Wall.  WSU is not responsible for loss or theft.

4. Shoes and shirts are required when in the facility. 

5. University Recreation reserves the right to refuse service and/or terminate access to the Climbing Wall for users whose conduct is deemed unsafe by UREC staff and/or violates applicable rules/policies.

6. No loose chalk allowed. 

Bouldering

7. Boulderers must keep their feet no more than 72 inches off the floor. 

8. Spotters are highly recommended. 

Belayed Climbing

9. Belayers must possess a current Belay Certification Card.

10. All belaying must be done using UIAA approved mechanical belay devices. No Figure 8 belay devices allowed. 

Route Setting

11. Route setting may only be conducted during designated route setting hours by authorized individuals.  

Non-Member Usage

12. Non-Members and their dependants must complete a wall orientation, purchase and show a Day or Semester Pass prior to entry

Youth (minimum age 6)

13. A parent/legal guardian must be present.  Unaccompanied children will not be allowed to climb.

14. Youth must wear climbing helmets when in the Climbing Wall.

15. Youth must keep their feet no more than 36 inches off the floor when bouldering.   

The following conduct may result in removal/suspension from UREC facilities or activities and may result in referral to police and the Office of Student Conduct:

1. Verbal or physical abuse and/or the threat of abuse towards any participant, spectator or staff member. 

2. Horseplay or unsafe use of the climbing wall or equipment.

3. Public indecency or obscenity. 

4. Individual participating after the consumption, or suspicion of consumption of alcohol/drugs. 

5. Damage/destruction of facilities/equipment.

6. Any violation of WSU policies and procedures governing the conduct of students.
